GuardTek Tag Management

In this article, we will go over the Tag Management module.  We will define a tag in GuardTek, review how to add a Tag using the web portal and m-Post app, review some sample tag type uses, and how to manage a tag. 

What is a Tag?

As used in GuardTek, tags are defined as a NFC chip, card or QR Code.

NOTE: A tag can be assigned a Type that triggers further action(s) once scanned.  Once a tag is assigned a Tag Type - it cannot be changed unless it is deleted from the account and added to the app again.

How to Add a Tag Using the Web Portal

To add a tag:
1. Log onto the GuardTek web portal as an Admin or Supervisor.

2. Hover over the Settings module and click NFC Tags.

3. Click the green Add a Tag button at the right-hand side of the page.

Name (1)

Give the Tag a name based on the intended use.

For example, John Doe's ID Card or Front Gate Tour Checkpoint.

Serial Number (2)

Scan the NFC tag and enter the serial number.

Technology (3)

The tag type will automatically be defined when the serial number is correctly entered.

Description (4)

You have the option to add a further description. 

Tag Type (5) 

The Tag Type will default to Undefined.

Use the drop-down menu to select how you want the tag to be used.

NOTE: Some selections will trigger a secondary drop-down field. 

For example: creating a User ID requires you to choose a user from the secondary drop-down menu.

NOTE: The Tag Types available for QR Codes are much more limited than NFC Tag options. 

5. Once the tag has been created, click the green Create (6) button at the lower right-hand corner.

Widely Used Tag Type Option Samples

Activity

This option allows you to select an activity or incident template from the secondary drop-down menu that must be completed when the tag is scanned.

 

Bunch

This option lets you associate the tag scan with a Key or Asset from the secondary drop-down menu.  The key or asset can be checked in or out by scanning the tag.

 

Change Security Post

This option allows you to scan the tag and have the phone change sites to one in the secondary drop-down menu without using the Change Site option in the m-Post App.

Start or End Shift or Break

These options allow users to scan the tag and start or end a shift or break.

 

How to Manage a Tag

To manage a tag:

1. Log onto the GuardTek web portal as an Admin or Supervisor.

2. Hover over the Settings module and click NFC Tags.

3. The tags will display in alpha-numeric order by the tag name in the Name column.

4. Find the tag you want to manage.  At the far right 2 columns, you have the option to Edit the tag or click the checkbox and then the green trash can icon to delete it.

Clicking the green pencil Edit icon will bring up the Tag Information page and allow you to edit the Name, Description (optional), and Tag Type.

Once the desired edits have been made, click the green Update button at the lower right-hand corner, and a pop-up notification will let you know the edits were successfully made.

If you click the checkbox and the green trash can icon to delete a tag, you will get a pop up that you must acknowledge to delete the tag.

How to View Tags Setup as a User ID Tag Only 

To view only tags set up as a user ID tag:

1. Log onto the GuardTek web portal as an Admin or Supervisor.

2. Hover over the Settings module and click User ID Tags.

3. The same managing options as the NFC Tags module display, with the exception being the addition of a Post column and only the Tag Type: User ID is displayed.
